Join the 香蜜影视 Music Department for an upcoming Sunday Recital with the Greg Moody Jazz Quartet at 3 p.m. on November 10.
The Music Department at 香蜜影视 announces an upcoming听Sunday Recital听with the听Greg Moody Jazz Quartet.听听Saxophonist Greg Moody will be joined by Bob Russell, guitar; Bob Bowen, bass; and Marlon Foster, drums.听 The recital is听听on the Mary Baldwin campus.听
Greg Moody is well known in the Staunton area, performing regularly as a member of the Queen City Porch Swingers and the Vosbein Magee Big Band. A saxophonist and woodwind specialist, he has also performed with groups such as The Temptations, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and Richmond-based Salsa group Bio Ritmo. Moody is also a successful composer and has written many works for jazz ensemble and concert band. One of his recent pieces was selected for the prestigious 鈥淭op 100 of 2023鈥 List in Bandworld Magazine. A graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory, Moody teaches at 香蜜影视, Fishburne Military School, and Valley Music Academy.
Guitarist Bob Russell performs regularly in the area in a variety of styles, including jazz, rock, and country. Russell was on the Music Faculty of the University of North Carolina-Wilmington for many years before relocating to Virginia. Bass player Bob Bowen has performed with many jazz artists, including guitarist Royce Campbell, pianist Hod O鈥橞rien, and guitarist Vince Lewis. Also a classical bassist, Bowen performs regularly with area orchestras, including the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra and the Waynesboro Symphony Orchestra. Drummer Marlon Foster is an active jazz performer and served on the percussion and jazz faculty at James Madison University for many years. Foster is also retired from the Harrisonburg City Public School system, where he taught instrumental music at the middle school level, and he was also a member of the United States Air Force Band.
For the November 10 performance, the quartet will play a variety of jazz selections, including works by John Coltrane, Pat Metheny, Henry Mancini, and Djavan Caetano Viana, along with several originals by Greg Moody.
Tickets for November 10 are still available鈥攁udience-goers are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets are $5 for the General Public and $4 for Seniors and non-Mary Baldwin students.
